Emergency Crisis Support for Students

If a critical incident involving one or more students has occurred, help is available at AAU.

AAU provides access to a psychological crisis response team to ensure professional handling that supports both the student and you as an employee.

When Can You Request Help?

You can request assistance if:

  • The crisis occurred within AAU.
  • The crisis affects the student’s ability to continue their studies.
  • The situation is so severe that it cannot be managed through AAU’s existing support services (e.g., Student Guidance and Wellbeing, Student Chaplains, Student Counselling Service).

Approval and Limits

  • Costs must be *approved by a manager at delegation level 4 or higher (e.g., head of studies, vice head of department, the sector manager, the head of section or the head of the secretariat).
  • Up to 5 hours, including travel, can be requested. For additional time, contact Student Guidance and Wellbeing.

*Whether crisis support is activated will always depend on an assessment by the Study Leader, possibly in consultation with Student Guidance and Wellbeing or the crisis service provider.

Steps to Request a Crisis Psychologist

  1. 1

Contact your nearest responsible manager (delegation level 4) for approval. Check if the student has crisis coverage through their own insurance. If yes, that option must be used instead of AAU’s crisis service.

A leader authorized to approve psychological emergency assistance should consult with Student Guidance and Wellbeing regarding the student’s need for support.

  2. 2

The responsible leader, or their appointed contact person, requests psychological crisis assistance from Nordisk Krisekorps via the 24/7 hotline: +45 60 11 11 44.

It is strongly recommended to contact Student Guidance and Wellbeing for advice before calling Nordisk Krisekorps.

Free consultation on the appropriate response is also available from Nordisk Krisekorps.

  3. 3

If the requester is not the responsible leader, written approval must be obtained for documentation purposes. This is done in order to secure later journaling.

  4. 4

After agreement, a chief psychologist begins handling the case and keeps the responsible leader informed.

  5. 5

When the crisis intervention ends, the requester or contact person completes a WorkZone form for cost coverage. Student Guidance and Wellbeing will approve the invoice and upload relevant documents before closing the case.

  6. 6

If you, as an AAU employee, need to talk through a difficult experience, you can use AAU’s psychological counselling service for staff.

    Contact HR-department for details.

Role of Student Guidance and Wellbeing

In a crisis, Student Guidance and Wellbeing acts as a coordinator. They do not manage the situation directly but provide advice on procedures for requesting psychological crisis support.
It is always recommended to contact them before calling Nordisk Krisekorps.
